// Administration
Vanish
Configure authorized-player invisibility and its permissions.

What you can configure
Let authorized Rust staff become invisible for observation, with explicit control over movement, interactions and feedback.
Edit Vanish.json: noclip, connect/disconnect rules, optional damage/lock hooks, marker teleport, sounds and the built-in status indicator. Permissions and saved hidden-player state stay on the server.
Use manual vanish with private feedback
- Keep both Automatically vanish players settings false and Make sound effects public false.
- Keep Enable chat notifications and Enable GUI true so the staff member can see the current state; review NoClip on Vanish deliberately.
- Grant vanish.allow only to the intended staff group, reload Vanish and test /vanish on and off with a nearby ordinary player.
Do not grant vanish.permanent for a manual-toggle workflow.
Enable marker teleport for selected staff
- Set Enable teleport to marker when vanished to true.
- Grant vanish.allow and vanish.teleport to the selected staff, not the default player group.
- While vanished and unmounted, hold the reload key when adding a map marker. Test on a safe area: the source keeps the player’s current height.
Common questions
Should I grant vanish.use or vanish.allow?
Grant vanish.allow. Two configuration keys still say vanish.use, but this version registers and checks vanish.allow. Keep those JSON key names unchanged.
Does a permission alone enable damage or lock bypass?
No. vanish.damage needs the OnEntityTakeDamage hook enabled; vanish.unlock needs CanUseLockedEntity enabled. The pinned defaults disable the damage hook and enable the lock hook. Review both switches and grants together.
Before you export
- Vanish 2.1.5 loads on the tested Rust/Oxide server. Visual effects and player interactions still require an in-game check.
- Noclip, anti-hack bypass and connect/disconnect teleports need a safe server test; marker teleport does not choose a safe ground height.
- Hidden-player data is not exported. The built-in Rust CUI indicator is not editable as a PimpMyCUI project; remote icons depend on their image host.
Server permissions
vanish.allow- Toggle invisibility and qualify for configured automatic vanish.
vanish.unlock- Bypass locks while vanished when the lock hook is enabled.
vanish.damage- Allow damage from a vanished attacker when the damage hook is enabled.
vanish.permanent- Permanent vanish; prevents ordinary toggling back to visible.
vanish.invviewer- Inspect player inventories with the configured inventory-view commands.
vanish.teleport- Use enabled marker teleport while vanished.
