/// SUPPORTED THIRD-PARTY PLUGIN

Quick Smelt

Free guide for configuring this third-party plugin in the Hub. To install it, use its plugin page or official source.

Prepare your file

  1. Check the installed version

This guide describes Quick Smelt 5.1.5. Use the same version in the configurator.

  2. Get the settings

Click Import, then From my server. Select the files and confirm loading them. Selecting a server does not replace the open document. You can also import files from this device or a configuration from My projects.

  3. Edit and send

Adjust settings, fix errors, then use Send to transfer files to the selected server. A conflict blocks sending until you choose how to resolve it. You can still export only the files you need.

Server transfers have private backups. Save keeps your work in My projects; it does not send anything to the server. A download also lets you resume without a server connection.

Settings for this version

General 9
Use permission
On / off · required

Require quicksmelt.use for the owner or the player who lights the oven.

JSON pathUse Permission
Smelting speed multipliers
JSON value · required

Speed up or slow down cooking ticks: 2 runs them twice as often as 1, also speeding tick-based fuel processing. The oven short name takes priority over global. Use positive values.

JSON pathSpeed Multipliers
Fuel burn-speed multipliers
JSON value · required

Drain each fuel unit’s burn reserve faster or slower on each tick. 2 drains it twice as fast; tick frequency also depends on Speed Multipliers. The specific oven overrides global.

JSON pathFuel Usage Speed Multipliers
Fuel usage multipliers
JSON value · required

Choose how many fuel units to remove when a burn reserve runs out. 2 consumes two units instead of one; this is not cooking speed. The specific oven overrides global.

JSON pathFuel Usage Multipliers
Output multipliers
JSON value · required

Multiply produced amounts, including fuel by-products such as charcoal. The specific oven overrides global; within its table, the output item short name overrides global. Final quantities are converted to integers.

JSON pathOutput Multipliers
Input whitelist
JSON value · required

Allow these items to cook even when the oven temperature would normally be unsuitable. This is not an exclusive list: other items still use normal cooking rules. Blacklist wins. Short names identify input items; the specific oven overrides global.

JSON pathWhitelist
Input blacklist
JSON value · required

Prevent listed input items from cooking, even if also listed in Whitelist. Items in neither list follow normal temperature rules. The specific oven overrides global.

JSON pathBlacklist
Smelting frequencies
JSON value · required

Space out item processing: 2 processes items only every second cooking tick without similarly spacing fuel processing. The specific oven overrides global. Keep a positive integer: 0 causes division by zero in this version.

JSON pathSmelting Frequencies (Smelt items every N smelting ticks)
Debug logging
On / off · required

Enable verbose diagnostic logging.

JSON pathDebug

Plugin instructions

Quick Smelt 5.1.5

Quick Smelt changes furnace processing speed, fuel use, output, and accepted inputs. It has no required plugin dependency and runs on Oxide. When Use Permission is true, grant quicksmelt.use to intended players: the pinned oven-toggle path accepts an eligible owner or an eligible player operating the oven.

Reviewed on 2026-10-05 against misticos’ official guide, the pinned 5.1.5 source, schema and defaults. The Hub edits oxide/config/QuickSmelt.json; it does not run an oven, grant permissions or benchmark throughput.

Configuration

  • Speed Multipliers changes how frequently each oven processes items. Fuel Usage Speed Multipliers changes how fast fuel burns, while Fuel Usage Multipliers changes the amount consumed.
  • Output Multipliers is a two-level dynamic map: oven shortname, then output item shortname. global can act as a fallback at either level.
  • Whitelist and Blacklist are dynamic oven maps containing input item shortnames, not output items. Blacklist wins an overlap. An unlisted item is not automatically denied by the whitelist; normal cooking checks still apply.
  • Smelting Frequencies (Smelt items every N smelting ticks) processes items every Nth smelting tick; larger values make processing slower and less frequent.
  • Debug enables diagnostic logging and should normally remain false.

Edit these rules using the form’s named entries and value fields; no raw JSON is required. Replace sample keys such as furnace.shortname and item.shortname with actual Rust shortnames (furnace, furnace.large, campfire, and so on). The pinned source does not validate multiplier signs or frequency bounds. Zero, negative, or extreme multipliers/frequencies can cause broken balance, excessive production, unexpected fuel behavior, or runtime arithmetic problems; test a complete ruleset off production.

Target file: oxide/config/QuickSmelt.json.

Recipe: faster small furnaces without an output bonus

  1. In Speed Multipliers, keep the global entry at 1 and add a setting named furnace with value 2. In Smelting Frequencies (Smelt items every N smelting ticks), keep global at 1.
  2. In each fuel section, keep the global value at 1. Under Output Multipliers, keep a global oven entry containing a global item entry set to 1. Remove conflicting oven-specific overrides and unused sample entries.
  3. Keep Use Permission true, grant quicksmelt.use to intended players, reload QuickSmelt, and compare ore, output and fuel in a test small furnace.

Speed, fuel and output are separate controls, not a guaranteed fuel-per-ore ratio. A furnace rule does not target furnace.large.

Recipe: double metal fragments only in small furnaces

  1. In Output Multipliers, keep a global oven entry with its global item set to 1. Add a furnace oven entry; inside it, set global to 1 and add metal.fragments with value 2.
  2. Keep speed, both fuel maps and frequency at global 1 for an isolated output test; remove conflicting oven overrides.
  3. Reload and compare metal ore in small and large furnaces with eligible players. Review effective input lists if smelting is blocked.

This is an example balance change, not a recommended production rate. Test the complete file before applying it to a live server.

Permissions and limits

quicksmelt.use is checked when Use Permission is true. On oven toggling, either the owner or the operating player may qualify; do not describe this as owner-only control. Exporting neither grants this permission nor installs the plugin.

Use positive speed/fuel/output values and an integer smelting frequency of at least 1. The configurator blocks an invalid frequency before export and starts new rules at 1. Select an oven in Ovens and cooking to edit its seven rules together; All ovens edits global. Leave Debug false unless diagnosing.

Questions

Why does a furnace ignore my global setting?

A matching oven shortname takes priority. Use real keys such as furnace or furnace.large, not furnace.shortname. At each map level the specific entry replaces its global fallback, not a merge of all global entries. Check permissions too.

Should my input list contain metal.ore or metal.fragments?

Use the input shortname (metal.ore) in input lists and the product (metal.fragments) in output multipliers. If the input is in both effective lists, blacklist wins. Whitelist is not a strict deny-everything-else list; unlisted inputs still follow normal cooking checks.

Install the files

With a connected server, click Send in the configurator. The result shows whether the files were sent and the plugin reloaded. Without RCON, reload the plugin from your server panel after sending.

Without a connected server: Keep a copy of the current files. Place each export in the folder shown before export, or follow the paths in the ZIP. Do not put data or translation files in the config folder.

Follow the plugin instructions above for dependencies and reloading. Exporting does not connect the site to your server.
