Plugin instructions
Dialogs — native candidate 1.1.0
This guide covers the native 1.1.0 candidate: five layouts, paginated replies and a server command to open a conversation for a connected player. It is not the current Codefling release, which remains 1.0.1. The separate PimpMyCUI beta also uses version number 1.1.0. Install one edition at a time and test it on a private server before live use.
Choose the presentation
In the configurator, open Presentation:
- Choose the global layout under
Template, for examplecinematic-ember. - To give one conversation a different layout, add its identifier under
Template by dialogue, for exampleBob, and selectwasteland-radio. - Set
Languagetoenorfr, export the file tooxide/config/Dialogs.json, then reload Dialogs.
Five layouts are available: cinematic-ember, wasteland-radio, monument-dossier, arctic-signal and carbon-terminal. Cinematic Ember is the new-installation default. A per-dialogue entry overrides the global choice. Each page has up to four replies, with navigation for the remaining replies. The native edition renders these layouts without requiring PimpMyCUI.
An existing native config without Presentation selects legacy; the retained native interface can use UI Configuration when it is available. Unknown template keys fall back to Cinematic Ember. The PimpMyCUI beta maps legacy to Cinematic Ember instead. Do not treat the same 1.1.0 version number as a guarantee that native and beta configurations or rendering behavior are interchangeable.
Language: "fr" translates dynamic navigation/conversation labels, not dialogue text. Decorative headings remain English; other language values use English. Reload Dialogs after changes.
Author the conversation separately
Questions, replies, conditions, actions and NPC associations remain in oxide/data/Dialogs/, not the Hub interface settings. The NPC map uses List of all npcs with dialog and real NPC UserIDString keys. DialogData_Bob.json is identified as Bob. Back up existing data; do not overwrite it with examples.
PlayerEventStates is required to check and update player/global progression. Use an NPC provider emitting the expected OnUseNPC hook; HumanNPC is the documented example. NPC Overlay is optional and independent. Dialogs does not create NPCs or a complete quest/reward system.
Open a loaded conversation for a connected player from server console/RCON or a server-command trigger:
dialogs.show <steamid> BobA trigger must use its own documented player placeholder. F1 use is administrator-only. The API Dialogs?.Call("ShowDialog_API", player, "Bob") receives a BasePlayer; administrator chat /dialog_show Bob remains available. Response Console Commands and Plugins Hooks are separate actions; %steamid% substitution is retained. Run trusted commands only after testing their effects.
Customize the interface
The gallery shows offline CUI previews, not new gameplay captures. UI Configuration remains available for the legacy native presentation; this configurator does not preview that old layout.
The supplied .pimpmycui-project.json files can be opened in CUI Editor, but applying a changed layout to Dialogs still requires a developer to compile the response-count variants and preserve the document identity, slots, bindings and events. There is no direct “edit and apply” integration from this configurator yet. Test long replies, image availability and plugin integrations in game.
Install the file
After keeping a copy of the previous file, place the exported JSON at this location on your server:
oxide/config/Dialogs.jsonFollow the plugin instructions above for dependencies and reloading. Exporting does not connect the site to your server.
