Dialogs

Settings guide for this version of Dialogs. Check the plugin page before using it on your server.

Prepare your file

  1. Check the installed version

This guide describes Dialogs 1.1.0. Use the same version in the configurator.

  2. Import your configuration

Open the configurator and import your current JSON. For a new installation, you can start from the provided example.

  3. Edit and export

Adjust the settings, fix reported errors, and export the JSON. Keep a copy of your old file before replacing it.

Your configuration is not saved on the site. Keep the exported file; you can import it again later.

Presentation 3
Default template
Choice

Choose the conversation appearance. The PimpMyCUI beta falls back to Cinematic Ember for legacy; only the native candidate can render a retained legacy layout.

JSON pathPresentation → Template

Allowed values: cinematic-ember, wasteland-radio, monument-dossier, arctic-signal, carbon-terminal, legacy

Template per dialogue
JSON value

Map a dialogue ID such as Bob to a template key. Unknown keys fall back to Cinematic Ember; this does not edit dialogue questions, replies or actions.

JSON pathPresentation → Template by dialogue
Interface language
Text

fr translates dynamic navigation labels; other values use English. Dialogue text is not translated, and decorative template headings remain English.

Plugin instructions

Dialogs — PimpMyCUI beta 1.1.0

This beta offers five conversation layouts rendered through PimpMyCUI, with paginated replies. It is separate from the current Codefling release 1.0.1 and the native 1.1.0 candidate. PlayerEventStates and a compatible PimpMyCUI runtime are required. The PimpMyCUI contract used by this beta is 1.0.0, including transition and event.closed support; an older runtime may lack these capabilities. Install one edition at a time and test it on a private server before live use.

Choose the presentation

In the configurator, open Presentation:

  1. Choose the global layout under Template, for example cinematic-ember.
  2. To give one conversation a different layout, add its identifier under Template by dialogue, for example Bob, and select wasteland-radio.
  3. Set Language to en or fr, export the file to oxide/config/Dialogs.json, then reload Dialogs.

Template keys: cinematic-ember, wasteland-radio, monument-dossier, arctic-signal, carbon-terminal. Cinematic Ember is the new-installation default. Each page has up to four replies; navigation exposes remaining replies. A per-dialogue entry overrides the global choice. Reload Dialogs after changes.

Language: "fr" translates dynamic navigation/conversation labels, not the dialogue text; decorative headings remain English. Other language values use English. The retained UI Configuration contains legacy native settings and is not used by this PimpMyCUI beta. A native old configuration without Presentation selects legacy; this beta maps legacy and unknown template keys to Cinematic Ember.

Author the conversation separately

Questions, replies, conditions, actions and NPC associations remain in oxide/data/Dialogs/. The NPC map uses List of all npcs with dialog and real UserIDString keys. DialogData_Bob.json is identified as Bob. Do not overwrite existing server data with examples. PlayerEventStates filters eligible opening questions and replies and remembers configured player decisions. NPC Overlay remains optional and independent.

Open a loaded conversation for a connected player from server console/RCON or a server-command trigger:

dialogs.show <steamid> Bob

A trigger plugin must use its own documented player placeholder. F1 use is administrator-only. The API Dialogs?.Call("ShowDialog_API", player, "Bob") receives a BasePlayer; administrator chat /dialog_show Bob remains available. After a reply, Console Commands and Plugins Hooks are separate actions; %steamid% substitution is retained. Dialogs does not create NPCs or a complete quest/reward system.

Customize the CUI

Open a supplied .pimpmycui-project.json file in CUI Editor using File → Open/Import project. Applying a changed layout to Dialogs still requires a developer to compile the response-count variants and preserve the dialogs-<template> identity, slots, model bindings and events. These projects are not installable plugins. There is no direct “edit and apply” integration from this configurator yet, and the Editor’s generic server-package export does not replace this workflow.

The native and beta editions share layouts but use different rendering runtimes. The gallery shows offline CUI previews, not new gameplay captures. Test long replies, image availability and plugin integrations in game before live use.

Install the file

After keeping a copy of the previous file, place the exported JSON at this location on your server:

oxide/config/Dialogs.json

Follow the plugin instructions above for dependencies and reloading. Exporting does not connect the site to your server.
