/// SUPPORTED THIRD-PARTY PLUGIN

Better Loot

Free guide for configuring this third-party plugin in the Hub. To install it, use its plugin page or official source.

Prepare your file

  1. Check the installed version

This guide describes Better Loot 4.5.2. Use the same version in the configurator.

  2. Get the settings

Choose your server: its settings are retrieved automatically. An existing draft is kept. You can also import files from this device or use the defaults.

  3. Edit and apply

Adjust settings, fix errors, then apply files to the selected server. A conflict blocks sending until you choose how to resolve it. You can still export only the files you need.

A configuration linked to the server has private backups when files are sent. Unsent edits remain in the editor. Keep your export too, to resume without connecting to the server.

Plugin instructions

Better Loot 4.5.2: configure container loot

The PimpMyRust configurator edits oxide/config/BetterLoot.json and four administrator Data files: Blacklist.json, LootTables.json, LootGroups.json, and GatherRates.json under oxide/data/BetterLoot/. Install the plugin separately. The public overview gives a quick 2× path; this guide explains which file to edit for a container.

Set a global 2× starting point

Open the Better Loot configurator, open Examples, and select 2× loot and added scrap. It sets Loot Multiplier and the plugin's Scrap Multipler field to 2 in BetterLoot.json. Export that file and apply it to a test server running 4.5.2. This example does not create a prefab entry or modify LootTables.json.

In the Vanilla overlay, multiplied non-scrap items remain subject to their stack limit. Vanilla scrap already in a container is unchanged; the multiplier affects scrap added by a loot table when its configured amount is positive. Reload and inspect an enabled, watched container before claiming a live 2× result.

Change one container's table

Import the server's current oxide/data/BetterLoot/LootTables.json into the configurator. Locate the actual LootContainer.PrefabName entry and edit its guaranteed, ungrouped or item-list records. Keep other entries, then export the native Data file. LootGroups.json defines reusable groups; Blacklist.json is a separate exclusion catalogue. Avoid inventing prefab paths or item shortnames: use values present on the server and test a spawned container.

Gather settings limitation

In Better Loot 4.5.2, the plugin can ignore edited amounts in GatherRates.json and keep its defaults. This occurred on the test server: a successful export or reload therefore does not confirm an effect on gathering. Container loot editing in LootTables.json is separate.

The config also has a named list of gather plugins for its stand-down behavior. An unlisted gather plugin is not automatically detected, so test coexistence deliberately.

Source and scope

Checked on 2026-10-17 against Better Loot 4.5.2 source, the uMod listing, and a live plugin test. Check a container in game to confirm the loot result.

Install the files

With a connected server, click Apply in the configurator. The result shows whether the files were sent and the plugin reloaded. Without RCON, reload the plugin from your server panel after sending.

Without a connected server: Keep a copy of the current files. Place each export in the folder shown before export, or follow the paths in the ZIP. Do not put data or translation files in the config folder.

Follow the plugin instructions above for dependencies and reloading. Exporting does not connect the site to your server.
